The plant was built in the 70's during the GDR era. The complex consists of round cell silos with 45,000 m² of concrete surface for the storage of grain and a compound feed plant with 10,000 m² outdoor surface area.

- The reinforcement had too little concrete coverage and the quality of the concrete also varied. This led to corrosion damage and concrete spalling. Since 2005, stricter regulations of the food law and hygiene regulations have been in force, which had to be observed. This meant that all surfaces had to be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner at 500 bar water pressure in order to reach solid ground and to determine the true extent of the damage.
